SUMMARY:Tennis: Laver Cup 2025 San Francisco
DESCRIPTION:The Laver Cup is an annual men’s tennis team competition that brings together top players from Europe and the rest of the world for a thrilling three-day event. Founded in 2017\, the tournament is named in honour of Australian tennis legend Rod Laver\, who won two calendar-year grand slams.  \nA unique blend of intense competition and camaraderie\, the now-annual event is held in late September\, after the US Open grand slam\, alternating between cities in Europe and other parts of the world. In 2025\, the Laver Cup will be played at the Chase Center in San Francisco\, California\, from 19-21 September.  \nThe format features two teams: Team Europe and Team World. Each team consists of six players\, including the top three ranked players from their respective regions and three captain’s picks. Tennis icons Björn Borg (Team Europe) and John McEnroe (Team World) have captained the teams since the event’s inception\, adding a layer of historical rivalry and prestige to the competition. Following the 2024 event in Berlin\, which Team Europe won 13-11\, it was announced that Borg and McEnroe would be stepping down as captains. They will be replaced by Yannick Noah (Team Europe) and Andre Agassi (Team World).  \nThe Laver Cup is played on indoor hard courts\, with three singles and one doubles match per day. Each match victory earns points for the team\, with the point value increasing each day (one point per win on Friday\, two points on Saturday\, and three on Sunday). The first team to reach 13 points out of a possible 24 is crowned the champion. In the event of a tie\, a deciding match is played to determine the winner. This escalating point system creates high drama\, making every match crucial to the overall outcome.  \nOne of the tournament’s most exciting aspects is the doubles competition\, often featuring unexpected pairings between top singles players\, like when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal teamed up for Team Europe in the inaugural 2017 edition. With its fast-paced format\, elite-level competition\, and electrifying atmosphere\, the Laver Cup has quickly become one of the most anticipated events on the tennis calendar. \nFor more information see:  \n\nEvent: lavercup.com   \nVenue: chasecenter.com \nHost city: sftravel.com

SUMMARY:The Championships Wimbledon 2025 – tennis grand slam
DESCRIPTION:The Championships Wimbledon\, held annually in London SW19\, is the oldest and most prestigious of the four grand slam tennis tournaments. Played on its legendary grass courts\, and with a history that dates back to its inception in 1877\, Wimbledon takes place in 2025 from 30 June to 13 July at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. Steeped in tradition\, Wimbledon maintains its charm through strict customs such as the all-white dress code for players\, strawberries and cream for spectators\, and the attendance of the British Royal Family.  \nThe All England Club’s grass courts are the fastest surface in tennis\, making it a haven for big servers and players who favour serve-and-volley tactics. The low bounce of the ball on grass creates a unique challenge\, rewarding players with quick reflexes and strong net play. Despite technological and stylistic advancements in the game\, Wimbledon remains a tournament where tradition meets modern athleticism\, offering some of the sport’s most exciting and unpredictable matches.  \nIcons of the game like Roger Federer\, Serena Williams\, Novak Djokovic\, Pete Sampras\, and Martina Navratilova have built legacies at Wimbledon. Federer\, with his record eight men’s singles titles\, is widely regarded as the greatest grass-court player in history. Similarly\, Navratilova’s nine women’s singles titles stand as an unparalleled achievement at the tournament.  \n \nThe tournament’s iconic Centre Court\, with its retractable roof\, allows matches to continue uninterrupted by rain\, a frequent occurrence in London’s summer. Alongside the grandeur of Centre Court\, Court No.1 also hosts crucial matches and intense showdowns. Wimbledon’s setting is equally memorable\, with its ivy-clad walls\, lush green lawns\, and meticulously manicured grounds.  \nFor many players\, winning Wimbledon is the ultimate career milestone\, symbolising excellence and timelessness in the sport. Wimbledon’s blend of history\, tradition\, and top-tier competition makes it the crown jewel of tennis\, revered by players and fans worldwide. \nFor event information and hotels see: \n\nOfficial website and tickets: wimbledon.com\nTicket packages: Champions Travel\nHotels in London: Expedia | Hotels.com | LastMinute.com\nExperiences in London: BuyAGift | Red Letter Days\n\n  \n \n\nImage: Mike Starling/Sports Tourism Media \nEditor’s note: Sports Tourism Media works with a number of affiliate partners. SUMMARY:Real Tennis Champions Trophy 2024
DESCRIPTION:The Real Tennis Champions Trophy\, an annual tournament presented by Mitsubishi Electric\, will be held from 28 July to 4 August 2024. Taking place at the Royal Tennis Court at Hampton Court Palace\, the 500-year-old home of Real Tennis\, the event will bring together the world’s top Real Tennis players. \nSpectators can watch the world’s top-ranking players from £10 per match\, along with the chance to meet the competitors and learn more about the game of Real Tennis. This year’s new-look format includes qualifying rounds for eight participants as well as the main draw\, a new Amateur Handicap Doubles where CT24 players are allocated a pair to coach and support\, a Golf Day at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club and a gala dinner. If you have not yet seen the game for yourself but have always been intrigued this is an event not to miss.  \nThe Real Tennis Champions Trophy is an annual event that is unique to the Royal Tennis Club. It was devised by head pro Nick Wood\, a former European Opens\, and Australian\, US and British Opens Doubles Winner\, to allow the game’s world champions to play competitively at the home of the game. “The trophy was conceived to allow the world’s top players to compete at the home of Real Tennis and provide a location for the general public as well as club members to watch and enjoy the sport\,” said Wood. “I am delighted to see the Trophy grow and expand into a Real Tennis festival.”  \n \nNow in its sixth year\, the tournament has been supported by Mitsubishi Electric since its second iteration. “Mitsubishi Electric was introduced to Real Tennis by Historic Royal Palaces\, the charity which runs Hampton Court Palace\, and of which we are a longstanding supporter\,” said Hans-Joerg Hinkel\, senior corporate communications manager at Mitsubishi Electric Europe. “We immediately saw a natural fit with the values of the game and have been a proud supporter ever since. Supporting the original game of tennis highlights our dedication to preserving history and traditions as well as healthy well-being.” \nThis year the trophy is taking place from 28 July to 4 August\, starting with the qualifying competition on 28 July followed by the Trophy Days during 29-30 May\, the doubles tournament takes place on 1-2 August\, semi-finals on 3 August and culminates on Sunday 4 August with the finals and prize-giving.  \nWorld No.2 John Lumley will be defending his trophy after winning in 2023. “I had an amazing time at the Champions Trophy and really enjoyed being at the Palace to play world-class Real Tennis\,” he said. “Winning was very special to me\, in front of a great crowd\, and with my family cheering me on.”  \nFor an up-close viewing experience and insights into the game\, tickets are available for all spectators throughout the tournament for the Dedans Viewing Gallery (Seated) and the Upper Viewing Gallery (Standing). Tickets include exclusive access to the Royal Tennis Court club rooms and private garden\, costing from £10 to £35 per person\, per match. Free tickets are available for the qualifying matches on Tuesday 28 May and 8-21 year olds are welcome to spectate for free of charge in the Upper Viewing Gallery throughout the tournament (subject to availability).  \nTo book tickets\, on sale from 15 May\, see royaltenniscourt.com
