Cycling holidays along the Kattegattleden – Sweden’s first national cycle route

Scandinavian countries including Sweden and Norway have seen a surge in tourism as visitors seek out slow travel experiences and destinations with cooler summer climates.

To meet this demand, Saddle Skedaddle has launched a new guided version of its popular self-guided cycling holiday along the Kattegattleden – Sweden’s first national cycle route.

The new holiday gives solo travellers and cyclists that like some extra support a new destination to explore in 2027.

About the route

Officially opened in 2015, the Kattegattleden stretches 395 kilometres from Helsingborg in Scania to Sweden’s second largest city, Gothenburg.

The first section of the trip follows the coast, passing Sofiero Castle – one of Sweden’s most beautiful castles – and taking in stunning views across Öresund towards Danish Zealand. Exploring towns and vineyards around the Kullahalvön peninsula, if time allows, there’s a welcome detour to the northernmost tip to visit Kullaberg Nature Reserve.

Cutting across the peninsula and into the heart of Bjäre, the Kattegattleden travels through Bjärehalvön and into the lively seaside town of Båstad, where there’s the option to extend the ride along one of Sweden’s longest sandy beaches towards the nature reserves of Gullbränna and Tönnersa. More beaches and nature reserves line the route of the Kattegattleden, including Tylösand, Frösakull, Ringenäs and Vilshärad.

Other highlights of the eight-day trip include sampling freshly cooked seafood in the fishing village of Träslövsläge; island-spotting alongside the beaches of Åsa; and, if time allows, a short detour to Tjolöholm Castle, Sweden’s only Tudor castle.

The final day on the bikes follows the shores of Kungsbacka Fjord back towards the coast. Cliffs, lush forests, sheltered bays, and small harbours decorate the coastline. Passing Nya Varvet and the Klippan Cultural Reserve, the Göta Älv leads riders into the city of Gothenburg. The guided holiday reaches its final stop at the Göteborg Opera and the bustling Lilla Bommen harbour.
