Man City’s new museum to form part of £300m Etihad Campus expansion

Manchester City has revealed the first details of a major new museum attraction that will form part of the English Premier League football club’s ambitious £300 million Medlock Square development, creating a year-round visitor experience at the Etihad Campus.

Scheduled to open later in 2026, the Manchester City Museum Experience has been designed to immerse visitors in the history, culture and defining moments of the club. The attraction will complement the club’s award-winning stadium tour, which is currently ranked among the top five visitor attractions in the UK on TripAdvisor.

Located at the heart of the new Medlock Square entertainment district, the museum will span more than 1,700 square metres across ten themed spaces, blending cutting-edge immersive technology with historic memorabilia and fan stories.

Visitors will be able to step back into some of the most important chapters in Manchester City’s history, including recreations of Moss Side, home to the club’s iconic Maine Road stadium between 1923 and 2003. Interactive experiences throughout the museum will allow fans to relive key moments, test their football knowledge and even try their hand at football punditry.

One of the headline attractions will be the opportunity to pose alongside all 48 major trophies won by Manchester City’s men’s and women’s first teams. The museum will also feature hidden details, little-known stories and evolving exhibits designed to encourage repeat visits from supporters and tourists alike.

A dedicated temporary exhibition space will showcase new stories and changing displays throughout the year, ensuring the attraction remains fresh and relevant for returning visitors.

Thanks to Manchester City’s long-standing partnership with sportswear giant PUMA, the museum will also include the interactive “City x PUMA Arena”. The area will feature a range of football-themed challenges designed to test visitors’ skills.

Among the highlights is a shooting challenge inspired by Sergio Aguero’s dramatic title-winning goal against Queens Park Rangers in 2012 – one of the most iconic moments in Premier League history. The space will also explore PUMA’s long relationship with football and its role within the sport.

The museum has been designed by Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA), the internationally renowned museum design firm behind major projects including the London Transport Museum, the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago and the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Danny Wilson, managing director of Manchester City Operations, said: “Building a completely new museum has allowed us to create an immersive experience that celebrates the people and moments which have shaped Manchester City. But our story isn’t traditional and straightforward, so why should our museum experience be? We want something different. Something immersive which will resonate with our fans, as well as excite the wider city. In doing so, we have developed something that appeals to fans, complements the Etihad Campus and provides a year-round attraction for the city.”

The museum forms part of a wider transformation of the Etihad Campus. Once completed, Medlock Square will operate 365 days a year and include a new 401-room hotel, office space, food and beverage outlets, a covered fan zone, a roof-walk experience and a flagship three-storey CityStore developed in partnership with PUMA and retail partner stichd.

The project reflects a growing trend among major sports clubs to invest in immersive attractions that extend the visitor experience beyond matchdays, helping to position stadium districts as tourism destinations in their own right while attracting domestic and international visitors throughout the year.
