Sports travel bucket list: cycling South Africa’s Garden Route

Cycling South Africa’s Garden Route

This new two-week adventure was designed with Tarryn Povey – one of South Africa’s top marathon mountain bikers – and showcases the beauty of the iconic Garden Route. Starting in Cape Town, cyclists will ride to Knysna, exploring Cape Winelands, mountain passes and the Little Karoo desert along the way. On the trip, they will tackle Route 62, one of the most scenic cycling roads in the country. Other highlights include visiting Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world, and staying at the award-winning Wildekrans Wine Estate. The trip covers 686 kilometres and offers a moderate activity level.

Cycling in Puglia and Matera

Cyclists will journey through olive groves, along coastlines and through scenic Italian cities on this eight-day tour of the Puglia region. Beginning in Matera, a cave town beloved by film directors, travellers will cycle through the countryside towards Lecce which is known for its amazing collections of baroque landmarks. Other highlights include wandering through Alberobello’s trulli houses, swimming in the Ionian Sea and staying at Masseria Bosco which is a converted farmhouse that serves home-grown produce. The trip covers 352 kilometres and offers a moderate activity level.

Cycling the Lake District of Chile and Argentina

Tackling a mix of paved roads and off-road gravel tracks, travellers on this 13-day adventure with explore active volcanoes, turquoise rivers, lakes and native forests, and cross the Andes not once, but twice. Cycle Kerala and Tropical India
