For those looking to venture further afield, Headwater’s expanded portfolio features routes along the fjords of Norway, follows routes of the Tour de France and offers e-biking tours across Southern Albania. Here we take a look at some of the highlights…

This underexplored corner of Europe is rich in history and natural beauty – from ancient Roman ruins and Ottoman towns to the UNESCO-listed city of Gjirokaster. Headwater’s self-guided tour begins in the vibrant capital of Tirana before heading south to the Ionian Sea, taking in wild mountains, serene lakes, and untouched beaches.

Along the way, highlights include the Folgefonna Glacier, historic shipyards, and sweeping views over the Hardangerfjord – one of the country’s most celebrated natural wonders.

World Bicycle Relief

This year, Headwater Active Holidays also announced a charity partnership with World Bicycle Relief (WBR), a global nonprofit that empowers people living in rural regions by enabling access to reliable transportation. The network provides affordable bicycles, allowing vital access to health care, education and economic opportunities. In Uganda, 42% of the population currently lives below the poverty line and reliable transport is a crucial yet scarce resource. Thanks to WBR’s holistic approach and long-term support, each bike will continue to provide life-changing assistance for years to come.

Paul Britchford, head of operations at Headwater Active Holidays, said: “We are proud to be working with World Bicycle Relief to reach communities across the world. In 2025, we’ve committed to purchasing fifty Buffalo Bicycles, which are specifically designed for tough terrains and built to last. These bikes enable school children, community healthcare workers, entrepreneurs and families in Uganda easier access to critical services. As a team that is 80% female, we were particularly moved by their focus on empowering entrepreneurial women and helping girls to access education. Our goal for the upcoming year is to raise £12,000 and positively impact the lives of over one thousand women and girls in Uganda. When you book with us in 2025, we’ll make a donation on your behalf to World Bicycle Relief.”
