Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya secures Formula 1 future through to 2032

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has confirmed its continuity on the Formula 1 calendar. The renewal, signed between Circuits de Catalunya and Formula One World Championship Limited (FOWC), will see a grand prix hosted in Barcelona in 2026, 2028, 2030, and 2032.

The races in Barcelona will be in rotation with the grand prix at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, which will take place in 2026, 2027, 2029, and 2031.

A significant evolution for the event is its rebranding. Starting with the race held from 12-14 June 2026, the event will be officially known as the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. This change marks a new era under the management of Fira Circuit, a partnership designed to diversify the track’s usage and transform the infrastructure into a multi-purpose venue for large-scale cultural and corporate events.

The F1 Grand Prix remains a vital engine for the Catalan economy. The 2024 edition alone generated an economic impact exceeding €300 million and supported 2,500 full-time jobs. With a global F1 fan base of 827 million – increasingly composed of younger and female audiences – the event provides an unparalleled platform for projecting Catalonia’s image as a leader in high-level sports organization.

The Circuit continues to lead in environmental responsibility, recently renewing its FIA 3-Star Environmental Accreditation. Through its “Driving for a Better Future” mission, the venue prioritizes 100% renewable energy, waste management, and biodiversity, aligning with the UN’s 2030 Agenda.

Pol Gibert, CEO of Circuits de Catalunya SL, said: “We welcome this renewal through 2032, which represents a vital step in consolidating Catalonia as a key fixture on the international calendar. Beyond its €300 million economic impact, this is a strategic event that projects Catalonia worldwide as a country capable of hosting top-level sporting competitions.”

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, added: “Barcelona is an incredible city, and the fans always welcome us with such passion. The team has invested heavily in the circuit and hosted fantastic fan festivals, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience for both attendees and the city as a whole.”

Inaugurated on 10 September 1991, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is located in Montmeló, just outside of Barcelona. It has uninterruptedly hosted both the F1 and MotoGP Grand Prix for more than three decades.

Since January 2025, the 25-hectare infrastructure has been managed by Fira Circuit (Fira de Barcelona) on behalf of its owners – the Catalan Government, the RACC, and the Montmeló City Council.
